This post will be updated as new K12 Canvas improvements are released.
If your family uses a K12-powered school, you already know what it’s like to explore new learning paths and find what works best for your student. And we love that spirit of adventure!
But we also know the start of this school year brought some bumps, especially with the transition from the original K12 Online School (OLS) to the new K12 Canvas platform. From login glitches to assignments not appearing as they should, families had a tougher start than anyone had hoped. We know that when technology doesn’t work the way it should, it affects the whole school day. We hear you, we appreciate your patience, and we’re working hard to make the platform more reliable and easier to use—and more fun for students!
What You’ll Notice Soon
Here’s what the current and upcoming changes will help support:
- A clearer, more organized landing page to help students navigate online school
- Faster access to the essentials—assignments, schedules, progress, attendance, and live class sessions
- More time learning and less time troubleshooting
All these updates are designed to help daily routines feel more manageable for students and Learning Coaches.
Behind the Scenes: What We’ve Been Working On
Throughout the fall, the K12 technology team has been steadily strengthening the systems that power Canvas. Think of this phase as rebuilding the foundation of a home—important work that isn’t always visible but makes a meaningful difference in stability and reliability.
These early upgrades give us the steady base we need so that upcoming features work the way families expect. While the changes may not feel dramatic yet, they’re already helping create a more dependable experience for students, teachers, and Learning Coaches.
What’s Been Fixed
Here’s the progress so far:
- Most K12 login issues have been resolved
- Key learning tools have been improved
- Platform stability has increased as we prepare for new features
- Families can now use a new built-in Canvas Support Center for navigation help

More improvements are rolling out in January to make it quicker and easier for students and parents to get what they need, including:
- K12 Launch Pad—a new landing page that helps students find everything in one place (rolling out starting next semester)

- Easier access to lessons and live online classes
