Online school doesn’t mean students are disconnected. At Stride, we believe that social interaction and engagement are essential to online learning. That is why we provide a variety of social opportunities for students at Stride K12-powered schools and other learners to participate in outside of their academics.* These activities are great ways for learners to make friends, share interests and passions, learn new things, compete for cool prizes, and have fun!

Students enrolled at Stride K12-powered schools have access to even more opportunities to be social and connect with other learners, locally and beyond. Why is socialization in online learning important?
Online learning can be a great option when your student needs an educational program that's different from what's offered in a traditional brick-and-mortar setting. Since the classroom is virtual in online school, it's important for students have a way to connect with other students through social activities and extracurricular clubs. Stride K12-powered schools are unique among online learning providers in the number and diversity of social opportunities offered for enrolled students and other learners to connect with their peers.
How can your student socialize in online school?
Social opportunities include extracurricular activities and clubs for all grade levels, national competitions and contests, summer camps, and other enrichment programs. Student engagement and socialization in online learning is an important part of the Stride K12-powered education experience. Students can explore their passions and interests while developing meaningful friendships within a safe online learning environment at Stride K12-powered schools and in other Stride programs.
How do students interact in the online classroom?
Students at Stride K12-powered schools can interact with others during Class Connect sessions using chat features, breakout rooms, and more. Certain grades and courses also use project-based learning where students work together in groups to creatively solve problems.
What about parents and Learning Coaches, are there social opportunities for us too?
While we certainly want to make sure students have social opportunities in online school, we haven’t forgotten about their adults. We have resources and activities for parents and Learning Coaches available as well, including the Learning Coach Communities within the K12 App. You have lots of options to connect with other parents and find opportunities for your children to be more social. Plus, some of the Stride Enrichment Programs have sessions for adults so be sure to see what programs are currently open.
