Valentine’s Day isn’t just about cards, candy, and heart-shaped everything—it’s really about connection, creativity, and the little acts of kindness that bring people closer. And if you’re like many families, the kitchen is where so much of that love happens. From weeknight meals to holiday treats, cooking together gives you a chance to slow down, laugh, and create something meaningful side by side.
That spirit of connection is exactly what makes the K12 National Cook-Off so special. This competition isn’t just about recipes—it’s a celebration of love, creativity, and the joy of sharing something homemade from the heart.
The Heart of the K12 Cook-Off
When your student steps into the kitchen, they’re doing more than measuring ingredients. They’re building confidence, exploring their creativity, and discovering the power of sharing something they made themselves. The K12 Cook-Off brings students and families together in the most flavorful way, reminding all of us that food is one of the simplest and sweetest forms of kindness.
At its core, this competition is about community. Whether your student is adapting a treasured family recipe or trying something bold and new, they get to express themselves, tell their story, and share a little love through food.
And the best part? The competition is open to all K12-powered students in grades 6–12, regardless of their skill level.
How to Enter the 2026 K12 National Cook-Off
If your student is ready to jump in, here’s what they’ll need to know. In Round 1, they’ll create an original recipe that includes:
- A source of protein
- A naturally red ingredient
- A round-shaped ingredient
- A spice or herb (not salt or pepper)
- A creamy ingredient
When they submit their recipe, they’ll also share an ingredient list, three photos (prep, in-progress, final dish), a short description, and the total time from start to finish.
Five finalists will earn an all-expenses-paid trip to compete in person at the June 2026 Cook-Off. From there, one talented young chef will take home the $1,000 grand prize, and the community will vote to select a People’s Choice Winner, who receives $250.
All entries must be submitted by March 23. Visit the K12 Cook-Off page for full contest and submission details.
