Canvas: Why We Made the Change

This move isn’t just about upgrading technology. It’s about giving every student and family a stronger foundation for success. Canvas strengthens the security of student data, simplifies daily learning with one connected system, and opens the door to new features that we can continue to build on as education evolves. Just as important, it gives students experience on a platform already trusted by many of the nation’s top schools and universities. They’re not only learning today but preparing for tomorrow. 

The most important part of this transition is making sure the K12 School (OLS) is reliable and supportive for every student, Learning Coach, and teacher. We’ve been working hard to roll out updates that make the experience more stable and help families focus on learning rather than troubleshooting. 

We’ve also listened closely to feedback. Many families told us how much younger students missed Strider, the playful character that made learning fun in the old OLS. Strider will return in upcoming updates, alongside colorful dashboards with progress bars and simple lesson cues to help students know exactly where to start and stop each day. These improvements are designed to bring back the joy and clarity that help students stay engaged. 

Another exciting development is the new Global Home, an organized, unified dashboard that reduces daily stress and builds confidence. Instead of jumping between disconnected pages, everything will live in one place to make school simpler and less stressful. Over time, Global Home will become even more personalized, adapting to each learner’s needs and serving as a guide that grows smarter every day. 

And this is only the beginning. From easier grade tracking for families to notifications that flag when a student needs extra support, more enhancements are already in the works. Each step is focused on making the K12 School (OLS) not just a system students use, but a tool that actively supports their growth.
