Technical Requirements

What modem speed do I need?
- You need a 33.3 kbps modem or better (56 kbps modem is recommended).

Do I have to get an extra phone line? If so, how do I get one?
- K12 works like any other Internet application—you don’t need an extra phone line dedicated to our program. If you are interested in an extra line, you can contact your local phone company to install one for a fee.
What computer equipment is required to use K12?
- You need either a Windows-based or Apple Macintosh computer with an Internet connection and free software programs that can be downloaded from the Internet.
What browser and versions can I use?
- You will need Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 (or higher) or Netscape Navigator 7.0 (or higher). For information on how to obtain a browser, visit either the Microsoft or Netscape websites.
What plug-ins do I need and where can I get them?
- You will need Adobe Acrobat (7 or higher) and Adobe Flash 9 .
What computer skills are required?
- Some basic skills are required. Use of the computer is an important part of the program, but in the early grades it is mostly the parent (or other responsible adult) who interacts with the computer. The program is user-friendly.
