Check back in early December for more exciting topics to be offered next semester!
Drone Flight with DARTdrones
High school students learned how to fly a drone, explored the career opportunities drone flight can provide, and created a final flight video portfolio to showcase their experience. This program included virtual basic flight training and an introduction to advanced flight operations. DARTdrones professional instructors, who are also manned aircraft pilots, covered drone system orientation, the apps used to fly the aircraft, the autonomous flight modes built into the software of the aircraft, and emergency procedures to prevent a crash.
Drone FAA Part 107 Certification
Adult participants prepared to become FAA Certified Commercial Drone Pilots through this Drone Certification program. To fly under FAA Part 107, you need to pass a FAA drone pilot test called the Airman Knowledge Test. This two-hour, 60 question test requires extensive studying. This DARTdrones program prepared participants to take the FAA Part 107 exam so they’d understand the material and fly with confidence.
Entrepreneurship with Youth With Impact
High school students developed a business model, pitch presentation, and visual prototype. Students learned real business tools and concepts including understanding competitors, marketing ideas, building advisory boards, and much more. Youth With Impact provided instructors that guided students on how to turn passions into business ventures while learning critical skills for the workplace, including confidence, public speaking, tech skills, and financial literacy. Students graduated with powerful items for their resume, college applications, and job pursuits.
Creative Storytelling with Photography
High school students learned to hone observational and analytic skills by taking part in weekly group sessions, lessons from leading industry experts, discussion boards, and a unique photo essay project that they can now add to a professional portfolio to jump start a career. This program did not teach the technical side of photography in the sense of editing and software, this program helped develop creativity in learning how to tell a story through a photograph.
Music in Coding
High school students learned how to use block coding to create eight repetitive beats of music along with a visualization. They customized different aspects of their program to create a final product that can now be shared with family and friends as well as included in their professional portfolios.
Playwriting: Page to Stage
High school students explored and engaged with the elements of playwriting to create exciting and original One Acts. A play is different from a written story in that it is meant to be performed, not read. Playwriting is visual writing painted with characters’ dialogue. Drama is conflict and figuring out how characters handle those desires and challenges is part of the fun of playwriting. Students performed a staged reading of their plays and the final written plays can now be included in their professional portfolios.
Mobile App Development
High school students created their own unique mobile apps that run on Apple or Android devices. The field of mobile app development is set to remain one of the hottest, well-paid career areas for years to come, with an incredible projected growth rate. This program helped students kickstart their careers with useable skills and an app to include in their professional portfolios. Plus, they got to connect with peers across the country to share their passion for mobile development.
