Open Letter to Our Chicago Virtual Charter School Families
February 2, 2018
As you are aware, K12 has been an integral part of the CVCS family since 2006 when the school first opened its doors. We have heard from many of you, as well as parents of former students, of the life-changing impact CVCS has had on your children. Dr. Lebron leads a strong K12 team, including your Principals, who work with an extensive network of national colleagues and CVCS teachers to ensure the most innovative virtual and blended practices are available to CVCS students.
The K12 curriculum is one of the industry’s largest catalogs of impactful, cutting edge, digital curriculums and we have continued to invest millions of dollars in our lessons, assessments, and learning systems. Our goal is to ensure all students receive rigorous lessons using interactive technology that engages and inspires their unique brilliance. We believe this will translate into success in whatever future educational opportunities CVCS students may pursue.
We believe in the critical role you, as parents, grandparents, and other committed adults play in the education of your children. We have also invested millions of dollars in programs, materials, and personnel to support you, the Learning Coach, and we will continue that investment.
We believe in the power of the blended model and have developed extensive teacher professional development and tools that support your CVCS teachers as they instruct and support students. Your voice and the voice of your teachers, through pulse checks, surveys, and communication to K12 leaders guides our decisions as we plan for next school year and beyond. In addition to the investment and support we provide in helping teachers and learning coaches successfully partner in the education of your children, we also provide nearly all of the operational support for the school and have supported the school financially as needed. Since 2006, we have wanted nothing more than to see CVCS succeed as an innovative school that serves a broad range of students of all ages and backgrounds from across the Chicago area.
We want you to know that we have been working for months to arrange time with the CVCS board to negotiate K12’s continued support of your school. The CVCS board has, at this point in time, not begun to negotiate a contract with K12 for the 2018-19 school year. We understand the anxiety this may cause for you, the families of CVCS students, as well as for the dedicated administrators and teachers at this critical time of year when re-registration for next year has begun.
We appreciate that your board is comprised of volunteers, so we have made ourselves available at their convenience, as nothing is a higher priority for the K12 team than to meet and finalize a contract with the CVCS Board of Directors. The fabric of CVCS has been tightly woven with K12 and nothing could make us prouder.
We look forward to K12’s continued relationship with the CVCS family. Thank you for your continued support and dedication as Learning Coaches.
