Letter from Our Head of School

Dear Parents,

The Niobrara County School District #1 is excited to offer a state-wide distance learning program to Wyoming students in kindergarten through high school. Working with local school districts, we can offer a proven education program to students who wish to be educated in a home-based environment.

As a publicly-funded program of Niobrara County School District #1, the Wyoming Virtual Academy (WYVA) makes it easy for you to be an active participant in your child’s education. WYVA families receive a complete curriculum, lesson planning programs, books and instructional materials, the use of a computer if needed, and the guidance of a Wyoming-licensed teacher. In short, everything you need for an excellent education.

The Wyoming Virtual Academy uses the world-class K¹² curriculum. With this innovative learning program, WYVA provides an education that meets or exceeds state standards, and students demonstrate their knowledge and skills through the statewide PAWS testing program.

While WYVA has requirements for grade advancement, the K¹² learning program allows families and teachers to work together to help elementary students maximize their academic potential. Middle and high school classes are more synchronous, but still allow for greater flexibility than is typically possible in traditional schools.

But WYVA is not only about lessons. Elementary teachers organize school outings to museums, libraries, and other interesting and enjoyable sites. Older students participate in a variety of activities, including clubs, student government, and social events. These experiences bring families together and create real connections within the WYVA community.

We are proud of the achievements and outstanding parent, community, and faculty support system that have been developed in other regions where the K¹² learning program is used. We will be working toward these same accomplishments in our Wyoming program.

Not only are we proud of our program, we also believe that it is a profoundly good choice for families that are interested in getting actively involved in their children’s education. We hope to welcome you soon to the Wyoming Virtual Academy community.

Best regards,

Dr. Ed Weber
