How it Works (K-8)
The Virginia Virtual Academy is a tuition-free* public school program that uses the K¹² curriculum, which is accessed via an online school as well as through more traditional methods. Materials are delivered right to the family’s doorstep—including books, CDs, and even microscopes and cell samples for science projects. We also partner parents and students with a highly qualified, Virginia-licensed teacher to guide and track their progress and achievement through the curriculum. There are frequent face-to-face meetings and events as well. Student-to-student interaction is emphasized too, so VAVA students are provided with a variety of opportunities for social activities and engagement.
Who is this intended for?
The Virginia Virtual Academy serves K-8 students who officially reside within the state of Virginia.
What are the costs?
Because we are part of Carroll County and Buena Vista Public School Districts, the Virginia Virtual Academy is available to all district residents tuition-free*. The entire K¹² curriculum is provided free of charge.
How do I get started?
See our How to Enroll section for more information about how to get going.
*An annual out-of-district registration fee may be required for students applying outside of Carroll County Public School District.
