Meet our Lead Teachers

TXVA's state-certified teachers are committed to serving their students and helping parents every step of the way.

Angela Deschner, Houston Lead Teacher, is a Certified Elementary and Junior High School Teacher and is also certified in All-Level Art and ESL. She has taught in Houston ISD and in Clear Creek ISD. She received her BBA in Marketing at UCHL in 1990 and went back to UHCL for her teaching certificate in 1992. She has been teaching for over 12 years and loves working with children of all ages. She has taught academics and art in public schools and private settings. Since August 2006, Angela has served as a teacher covering grades 3-8 with Texas Virtual Academy@Southwest Schools. She was honored with the K¹² Founders Award for 2008 and the 2008 Teacher of the Year Award for Southwest Schools. In August 2008, she became Lead Teacher for the Houston Region. Outside of school, Angela spends time with her husband and son, Nathan. Other interests include attending church activities, reading, and creating jeweled works, ceramics, and embroidery.

Seana Baughman, Austin/San Antonio Lead Teacher, received a bachelor’s degree in history and English from Texas State University, in addition to earning secondary certification in these subjects. After graduation, Seana embarked on a decade of adventure, living in Europe, Tennessee, North Carolina, Louisiana, and various parts of Texas. She has lived in central Texas since 1999 and has used the K¹² curriculum since her eldest child began homeschooling in the fall of 2001. Seana believes that education is about the discipline and formation of the human person. This is why she is so pleased with the K¹² curriculum—it reflects her own educational philosophy. This is Seana’s fourth school year teaching for TXVA.

Jennifer Grissom, Dallas/Fort Worth Lead Teacher, graduated with a degree in Interdisciplinary studies from The University of Texas, Arlington. She taught middle school reading for two years before becoming part of the TXVA family in December of 2007. Jennifer has served students from many different backgrounds and is qualified to teach students in grades Pre-K-8 in all subject areas. She lives in the Fort Worth area with her husband and daughter.
