How it Works (High School)

At the Texas Virtual Academy@Southwest, high school students can be who they are, and then some.

Imagine a public high school program that lets students set their path on a range of post-high school goals, and gives students the freedom to explore their interests. From career preparation to college prep, our high school program is designed to help students maximize their ability to succeed after high school on whatever path they choose.

We provide a dynamic team of teachers to lead instruction and provide a connected school community. TXVA accesses the extensive K¹² high school curriculum portfolio of core, elective, and Honors courses, including Math, English/Language Arts, Science, Social Sciences, and more.

While the high school program is designed to give students the freedom they need, students aren’t in it alone. There are scheduled group discussions, chat boards, and online classes that connect students with an active high school student community. Regular teacher office hours keep the lines of communication open.

Who is this intended for?

TXVA will serve students in grade 9 for the 2009-2010 school year who reside within Regions 1-14 and Region 20 (see a complete list of counties served here ). TXVA will add an additional grade each year through grade 12, and will have a complete high school program by the 2012-2013 school year.

What are the costs?

Because we are part of the public school system, the TXVA high school program is tuition free. Enrolled families receive the complete K¹² curriculum, plus a loaner computer and printer at no cost. In addition, a stipend is provided to offset the cost of Internet access.
