Welcome from the Team
Welcome to San Francisco Flex Academy! Founded in 2010 and now part of a growing network of Flex Academy schools, SF Flex blends the best of a rigorous, college-preparatory high school environment with state of the art web based curriculum and integrated technology that personalizes learning and allows students to develop the habits of mind that lead to independence and self-direction.
The mission of SF Flex is to prepare graduates for college, life wide learning, and active citizenship in a diverse society. We are a tuition free public high school serving teens from San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area.
Teachers at SF Flex are highly qualified and specially trained to use data generated from the award winning, standards based K12 Inc. curriculum to tailor instruction for individual students, target skill development, and build subject matter mastery. Classes are small, typically between 5 and 12 students.
Academic Coaches work with students throughout the day both individually and in small groups to engage students in mastering the web based curriculum and build academic skills. Our supportive learning environment helps students develop habits of mind including organization, independent work, self-advocacy and problem solving.
With the largest choice of electives of any school in the San Francisco Bay Area, SF Flex Academy puts students in the driver’s seat by allowing them to choose from an array of courses so they can explore and develop their interests. Engaging project-based learning experiences challenges students to develop 21st century skills including communication and collaboration skills, project management, self-understanding, and information age research skills. Students are assisted by a comprehensive college counseling program and last year 96% of our Seniors enrolled in college.
Students meet daily in a small group with their Advisor. Advisory focuses on social and emotional growth and cultivates important traits like self-regulation, social intelligence, curiosity, perseverance and an understanding of multiple intelligences and personal learning styles.
The Advisory class is also a focal point for project-based learning where students create portfolios that demonstrate mastery of content knowledge and academic skills. Students present and defend their portfolios to fellow teachers, parents and community members during a culminating year-end performance assessment.
I want to thank you for visiting our web site and invite you to come tour the school. I hope you will consider joining our learning community.
