Meet Our Administrators
L. Cherry Daniel, Ed.D.
Head of School

Dr. Daniel previously worked at the South Carolina Department of Education as the State Director for Adult and Community Education, implementing the GED online prep program and virtual high school diploma courses. She also served on the initial SC Virtual School Task Force. During her tenure, South Carolina received incentive funds from the U.S. Department of Education as a result of meeting and exceeding academic student performance indicators. In 1999, the U.S. Department of Education selected Dr. Daniel's community education program as one of the top ten programs in the United States. She has authored numerous articles in refereed journals, developed a statewide professional development plan for teachers and administrators, is a certified grant writer and reviewer, and served as an adjunct professor at Charleston Southern University and The University of Charleston.
Dr. Daniel taught eleven years in both private and public schools at the middle and high school level. While serving as a Director in Dorchester County School, she established the school district's first alternative school. She also served as the assistant superintendent in Colleton County School district before joining the South Carolina Department of Education.
Dr. Daniel holds a B.S. in Secondary Education from The College of Charleston, an M.Ed., in School Administration, an Education Specialist degree from The Citadel and a doctorate in Education Leadership from South Carolina State University. She presently serves on The College of Charleston Board of Trustees (Academic Affairs committee chair) and The Lowcountry Graduate Center (elected Vice Chair), and was appointed by Governor Mark Sandford to serve on the South Carolina Workforce Investment Board. In 2007, Governor Mark Sanford awarded Dr. Daniel the Silver Crescent award as a result of her exemplary work in public education.
Dr. Phil Flynn

Dr. Flynn, SCVCS High School Principal also serves as Director of Title I and Secondary Ed. Dr. Flynn holds a BA in History, an MEd in Social Studies, an Ed Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and a PhD in Ed Administration. All degrees were earned at the University of South Carolina.
Dr. Flynn has spent 35 years as an educator in South Carolina’s public school system. Dr. Flynn taught secondary social studies at the beginning of his career. He has served as a middle school assistant principal, elementary principal, and high school principal. At the district level Dr. Flynn held the post of Deputy Superintendent. He has also served as President of the South Carolina High School League Executive Committee, as a mentor of principals and an assessor of aspiring administrators. Dr. Flynn has led several technical assistance visits for High Schools that Work and also served on numerous local, state and regional committees and evaluation teams.
Elizabeth (Beth) R. Reid, M.Ed.
Director of Elementary and Middle School Education

Ms. Reid serves as SCVCS Elementary and Middle School Administrator and the Director of Guidance. Ms. Reid holds a BS in Secondary Education from the College of Charleston and an MEd in Guidance and Counseling from Winthrop University.
Ms. Reid has spent 28 years as an educator in public and private schools in South Carolina. Ms. Reid taught secondary science, middle school English, and elementary, middle and high school physical education and health at the beginning of her career. She also served as a secondary guidance counselor. At the administrative level, Ms. Reid served as Head of School in a SCISA K-12 school holding Advanced Accreditation. She also served on the SCISA Athletic Committee and several academic accreditation committees.

Donna Strom, M. Ed.
Director of Exceptional Children

Donna Strom, Director of Exceptional Children, is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree. Mrs. Strom has taught grades 3-8, served as an elementary school counselor, and as a district director of special education and testing before joining the staff of SCVCS. In addition to her educational experience, Mrs. Strom has authored or coauthored seven books in the areas of character education and children/adolescent anxiety and depressive disorders. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the states of South Carolina and Georgia.
