Meet Our Staff
Sherri Remington, Program Director
Sherri comes to OKVA with a wide range of education experience. She has worked in all grade levels and subject areas, including special education. Sherri has also worked with K12’s Texas Virtual Academy@Southwest as the Special Education Administrator. She helped develop, implement, and supervise the special education program that is currently in place with that school. Sherri has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and a master’s degree in Special Education.
Jennifer Grant, Lead Teacher and 1-8 Teacher
Jennifer Grant began teaching after receiving a bachelor’s degree from Lakeland College in Wisconsin. Soon after, she started teaching high school German and English for Clover Park High School in Lakewood, WA. After a structural change in the school’s foreign language program, Jennifer moved to elementary school teaching first grade for the district. During this time, she earned a master’s degree in teaching from Grand Canyon University in Arizona. Last year, Jennifer moved to Oklahoma and was hired to teach middle school English and Reading, and was later asked to transfer to a first grade classroom to support the Response to Intervention (RTI) program. Now she looks forward to taking a new step working with the Oklahoma Virtual Academy!
Janet Harris, 1-8 Teacher
Mrs. Harris is very excited to be an OKVA teacher and she looks forward to meeting everyone. She graduated from Northeastern State University and has been teaching for three years.
Michelle Johnston, 1-8 Teacher
Michelle Johnston attended Rogers State University and earned an undergraduate degree in math. She transferred to Northeastern State University and graduated in December 2002 with a degree in secondary math education. After serving as a substitute teacher at White Oak she began teaching sixth-grade math and running the computer lab at Afton middle school in spring 2003. The next year she returned to White Oak and taught 7th-12th math and was the assistant girls’ basketball coach. At the start of the 05-06 school year, Mrs. Johnston began teaching special education in a self-contained classroom for grades K-12, along with serving as an assistant coach. In 2008 she was the high school special educator and she taught Algebra 2, computer science, and trigonometry. Mrs. Johnston is excited by the new things that she is going to learn and the new people that she is going to meet at OKVA.
Courtney Love, 1-8 Teacher
Courtney graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1999. Her degree is in Early Childhood Education, but she has also taught home-bound students at the middle school and high school level. Mrs. Love worked as a teacher for seven years and is very excited about teaching for the Oklahoma Virtual Academy. She looks forward to meeting her students and their families soon.
