Meet our Administrators

NVVA's administrators are committed to ensuring the finest education possible for your children. From providing expert tools and strategies to teaching materials and parent support, our staff is dedicated to making sure that you have what you need to deliver a well-rounded, enriching education to your children. Here are some of the people who maintain NVVA's high standards of education:

Mike Kazek attended Weber State College, earning degrees in Physical Education and Special Education. He also earned a Master of Science in Education Administration from Nova University. Mike taught 19 years with 17 in the Clark County School District. He has been a Site-Administrator with the College of Southern Nevada for 12 years and a Special Education Coordinator. Mike was a highly successful high school baseball coach and scout with then Montreal Expos.

Ashley Talbert holds master’s degrees in education and teaching from Regis University. She has been an educator in Nevada for 10 years. Ashley has received the ETS Recognition of Excellence for her outstanding achievement on the Praxis series. Her exceptional performance earned a score that ranks within the top 15 percent of all applicants. She previously spent five years outside the U.S., traveling and teaching in the Philippines, Spain, and Mexico. Ashley’s previous experience as a freelance journalist has helped foster her love for writing. She currently facilitates the Writing Study Hall sessions for NVVA. She is passionate about the “virtual” school movement and is proud to be a member of the Nevada Virtual Academy team.

Sonja Howerton holds a bachelor’s degree from Boise State University in business management with an emphasis in marketing and communications. After graduating from college, Sonja worked for several years as a program and special events coordinator for a non-profit organization, as well as an assistant administrator for a private non-profit school. She now works with the Nevada Virtual Academy leading parent information sessions, school-wide activities, and much more.
