Meet our Administrators
Meet the Administrators behind NVVA
NVVA's administrators are committed to ensuring the finest education possible for your children. From providing expert tools and strategies to teaching materials and parent support, our staff is dedicated to making sure that you have what you need to deliver a well-rounded, enriching education to your children. Here are some of the people who maintain NVVA's high standards of education:
Head of School
Mike Kazek attended Weber State College, earning degrees in Physical Education and Special Education. He also earned a Master of Science in Education Administration from Nova University. Mike taught 19 years with 17 in the Clark County School District. He has been a Site-Administrator with the College of Southern Nevada for 12 years and a Special Education Coordinator. Mike was a highly successful high school baseball coach and scout with the Montreal Expos.
Academic Administrator
Dr. April Taggart comes to the Nevada Virtual Academy with 23 years of experience in education and has served in a number of capacities, from classroom teacher to working as a coordinator, principal, and academic administrator in a private K-8 school. Before joining NVVA, Dr. Taggart spent many years teaching and working with students in grades 3-12. Dr. Taggart received her Bachelor of Independent Studies from Brigham Young University, and her Master of Science and her Doctorate of Education in Administration and Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Taggart believes in the words of William Butler Yeats who once said, "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."
High School Principal
J. Sean Jensen holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from University of Nevada Las Vegas, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Grand Canyon University, and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership; Nova Southeastern University. Before joining NVVA he taught Social Studies at Las Vegas High School and at Silverado High School. Mr. Jensen also coached high school football at all levels for 17 years, as well as wrestling, track and field, softball, and powerlifting.
Vice Principal, K-12
Orlando Dos Santos is originally from Vancouver, Canada, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in History, as well as a Bachelor of Education from University of British Columbia. In addition, he holds a Master of Arts in Education Administration and Supervision from University of Phoenix. Mr. Dos Santos comes to NVVA with four years experience in online education, as well as a wealth of traditional teaching experience in both Social Studies and Physical Education. Mr. Dos Santos also has 15 years of experience coaching all levels of basketball, both in Canada and Las Vegas.
