What is Destinations?

Destinations Career Academies and Destinations Career Programs give students an education that prepares them to be workforce-ready and college-ready. Rich courses and extracurricular experiences provide relevant opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding of real-world applications.

Destinations students:

  • Prepare for industry-recognized certifications
  • Enter college ready to concentrate on the career of their choice
  • Have an advantage over other college or job applicants by earning one or more industry-recognized credentials in high school
  • Can earn college credits, and/or a full Associate’s degree through Destinations' partnerships with local colleges and universities

Students receive instruction and support from expert teachers, most with work experience in the occupational pathways and fields they teach, and take courses geared toward helping them find their individual path.

Students meet regularly with certified counselors for in-depth conversations designed to help them reach their college and career goals.

Students also benefit from Destinations' partnerships with national and local businesses, local professionals and organizations, such as SkillsUSA, and other groups committed to developing a skilled workforce.

Graduates receive a diploma and are prepared to take the ACT's National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). The NCRC is a widely-accepted, industry-recognized certificate that gives graduates a competitive edge.

What career fields are offered?

A career field is a grouping of occupations and broad industries based on commonalities. The Destinations Career Academies and Destinations Career Programs offer two or more of the following four career fields:

Within these career fields, students can prepare for exams to earn industry-recognized certifications that will enable them to gain on-the-job experience in their career of choice while attending college.

SkillsUSA Membership

Destinations students can join their school's SkillsUSA chapter. With curriculum that covers 130 job categories and more than 600 national partners—businesses, trade associations, and unions—SkillsUSA gives students the opportunity to:

  • Practically apply what they learn in the classroom
  • Take courses in addition to those offered in the K12 course catalog
  • Participate in academic competitions and community service activities
  • Connect with like-minded students who have similar career and academic interests
  • Earn scholarships offered exclusively through SkillsUSA
