The Diploma
Research provides compelling proof that kids who graduate from high school have a higher chance of succeeding in their intended paths than those who do not. Therefore, it is the unequivocal goal of the K¹² International Academy to help each and every student get across that critical finish line. It is our core mission to equip every student with the foundation he or she needs to graduate and successfully pursue his or her goals after high school, whether that means attending a selective four-year university, a local community college, an online university, a trade school, or heading directly onto a career path.
In order to graduate and receive a high school diploma from the K¹² International Academy, students must complete 24* credits in the following subject areas, where each full-year course earns one full credit:
- English – four credits
- Math – four credits
- Science – four credits, including two lab sciences
- History – four credits
- World Language – two credits (must be two credits of the same language)
- Health – 0.5 credit
- Physical Education – 0.5 credit
- Electives – five credits
Total Required Credits: 24*
Of the 24* required credits, full-time students must complete a minimum of six credits (one full year of study) to be eligible for a K¹² International Academy diploma.
For full-time students, the K¹² International Academy will consider accepting credits earned at other institutions when an official transcript(s) has/have been received. Transfer of credits from a public school or accredited private institution will be considered on an individual basis. Transcript analysis will sometimes require further research and contact with prior institutions to determine eligibility of transfer credits. International records may require translation and/or evaluation prior to being considered for transfer credits. Transcripts from other institutions that have been presented for admission or evaluation become part of the student's academic file and will not be returned or copied for distribution.
* Students in the graduating class of 2011 and 2012 have been grandfathered in under the old policy and are subject to the 22-credit graduation requirement.
Advanced Placement International Diploma (APID)
Students applying to universities outside the U.S. may be eligible to earn an Advanced Placement International Diploma (APID), a globally recognized certificate provided by the CollegeBoard® for achievement on AP exams. The APID is not a substitute for the K¹² International Academy diploma but rather provides additional certification of outstanding academic excellence.
