The Diploma
Research provides compelling proof that kids who graduate from high school have a higher likelihood of succeeding in their intended paths than those who do not. Therefore, it is the unequivocal goal of the K12 International Academy to help each and every student get across that critical finish line. It is our core mission to equip every student with the foundation he or she needs to graduate and successfully pursue his or her goals after high school, whether that means attending a selective four-year university, a local community college, an online university, a trade school, or heading directly onto a career path.
In order to graduate and receive a high school diploma from the K12 International Academy, students must complete 22 credits in the following subject areas, where each full-year course earns one full credit:
- English – four credits
- Math – four credits
- Science – three credits, including two credits of biological and physical sciences
- History – three credits, including one U.S. History and 0.5 U.S. Government
- World Language – two credits (must be two credits of the same language)
- Health – 0.5 credit
- Physical Education – 0.5 credit
- Electives – five credits
Total Required Credits: 22
Of the 22 required credits, full-time students must complete a minimum of five credits through the iCademy to be eligible for a K12 International Academy diploma. Individual exceptions will be considered for students with credits from a public school or accredited private institution with a grade of C or above in all courses.
For full-time students, the K12 International Academy will consider accepting credits earned at other institutions when an official transcript(s) has/have been received. Transfer credits are awarded on a case-by-case basis. Transcript analysis will sometimes require further research and contact with prior institutions to determine eligibility of transfer credits. International records may require translation and/or evaluation prior to being considered for transfer credits. Transcripts from other institutions that have been presented for admission or evaluation become part of the student’s academic file and will not be returned or copied for distribution.
Advanced Placement International Diploma (APID)
Students applying to universities outside the U.S. may be eligible to earn an Advanced Placement International Diploma (APID), a globally recognized certificate provided by the CollegeBoard® for achievement on AP exams. The APID is not a substitute for the K¹² International Academy diploma, but rather provides additional certification of outstanding academic excellence.
