Special Events and Programs

Red Ribbon Week, presented by the Make an Impact Student Club

Red Ribbon Week is when communities and individuals can show their commitment to drug prevention, and take a stand against drug-abuse for the next generation. It is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country. More importantly, Red Ribbon Week commemorates the ultimate sacrifice made by DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who died while fighting the battle against illegal drugs to keep our country and children safe. Students Wwear red ribbons or pins, pledge to lead a drug-free life, and help promote this message in their community.

National Disability Month, presented by the Make an Impact Student Club

During National Disability Month, our student body focuses on educating and spreading awareness about disabilities, and proactively encourages all students to recognize the talents, skills, and dedication of disabled students who are a vital part of our school. An all-student assembly features a K¹² International Academy student who will share how she has overcome her disability and is training for the world junior games as the youngest long distance wheelchair racer.

National Spelling Bee

The National Spelling Bee is an opportunity for students to prepare and spell words during a K¹² International Academy Spelling Bee. Top spellers will represent our school at K¹²’s regional and national online spelling bees.

K¹² Operation Lemonade

Annually, K¹² International Academy students are encouraged to participate in global K¹² programs intended to help improve the world. K¹² students are currently working together to raise awareness of and funds for childhood cancer through K¹² Operation Lemonade. This program, which supports Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, encourages students to get involved and make a difference in their community by selling student-designed T-shirts and hosting their own lemonade stands. Students follow the lead of a courageous young girl who taught the world that you could make a difference one cup of lemonade at a time. It's all part of the K¹² goal to develop the whole child, including his or her character.
