Aloha from Hawaii Technology Academy, An Approved Public Charter School

Thank you for your interest in Hawaii Technology Academy (HTA), an innovative public charter school. HTA uses a "hybrid" model of schooling that combines classroom and virtual learning programs that allow students to receive individualized programs using an engaging web-based curriculum and interactive technology. Open to Oahu, Kauai, Maui, Lanai, Molokai and Big Island students in grades K–12, Hawaii Technology Academy gives students the opportunity to use technology and innovative online courses to complete their education.

Our charter school is a tuiton-free public school program that provides the following:

• The innovative K¹² curriculum and Online School (OLS)
• High-quality lessons in core subjects, delivered via the OLS
• A complete set of grade-appropriate materials to accompany lessons
• Hawaii-certified teachers
• Oahu and Kauai Learning Center activities
• Use of a loaner computer
• Broadband access (stipend)
• Community connection through school-sponsored group outings, chat boards, contests, and more

Students in HTA learn outside of a traditional school building, but use the Internet to access their lessons and stay connected to their teachers and schoolmates. Hawaii-certified teachers work in close partnership with parents to focus on the individual needs of every child. Teachers assign lessons and provide instruction and guidance, while parents help support and encourage students as they progress through their lessons. Families and teachers interact via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, and phone.

Although students have greater flexibility to learn at their own pace, they are still required to meet accountability standards, including academic and attendance requirements, and must participate in state assessments in a proctored setting.
