How to Enroll

Important Announcement

Enrollment for the 2009-2010 school year is now closed. To be kept updated on news from the Hawaii Technology Academy, including when enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year opens, provide your information to us here.

Families must reside on the islands of Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island to participate in our program. Enrollment spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hawaii Technology Academy (HTA) is a hybrid-model public charter school. Students who participate in HTA are public school students, and must abide by state attendance requirements and state assessment testing. Students residing on the islands of Oahu and Kauai must participate in Learning Center classes as designated by their need with a minimum attendance of one day per week. There will be a designated Learning Center day, to be determined, for neighbor island families. Students will be required to attend school on that day. Students need a responsible adult (Learning Coach) available daily to participate in HTA and must have access to the internet.

assessStep 3. Take assessment
Note: Your student’s online enrollment dashboard will list assessments as not required. However, HTA will contact each family to schedule a placement assessment. When all compliancy documents have been received, you will be notified via phone and e-mail regarding your child’s placement assessment. Assessments for grades K-1 will be administered on-site by a teacher at our Oahu Learning Center. Students in grades 2-10 will be scheduled to take a web-based diagnostic assessment that will be administered at our Oahu Learning Center. These assessments will assist in the placement of math and language arts courses.

After your child completes the assessment process, you will be contacted by a member of our enrollment team who will discuss course placement. Based on assessment results, recommendations will be made in the following core subjects: Math, Language Arts, Science, and History.

Important Note: Course placement and enrollment of all new HTA students will be marked as pending until a withdrawal/school transfer form from your child’s existing school is submitted to HTA’s main office. All withdrawal forms need to be dated between June 8, 2009 and June 22, 2009. IF YOUR CHILD IS STARTING HTA IN THE FALL OF 2009, DO NOT WITHDRAW YOUR CHILD FROM THEIR EXISTING SCHOOL UNTIL AFTER JUNE 8, 2009 BUT BEFORE JUNE 22, 2009.

IF HTA DOES NOT RECEIVE AN OFFICIAL WITHDRAWAL/TRANSFER FORM DATED AFTER JUNE 8, 2009 AND/OR BEFORE JUNE 22, 2009, YOUR STUDENT’S ENROLLMENT APPLICATION WILL REMAIN PENDING.

approvalStep 5. Take assessment
Once the withdrawal/school transfer form has been received, each student’s enrollment will be finalized and approved. An approval e-mail will be sent confirming enrollment. This e-mail will include a list of the student’s courses, our student handbook, an online “Getting Started” link, and other materials for your review.

Important Reminder: Your student will not be able to access our online school until you provide a withdrawal/school transfer form to our HTA mail office dated between June 8, 2009 and June 22, 2009. At the close of the school year you will need to contact your child’s existing school to find out about their withdrawal/transfer process.
