How it Works (K-8)

At Hawaii Technology Academy, K-8 students interact with one or more state-certified teacher(s) (depending on the grade level) and communicate regularly with their teachers. Everything students need for in-classroom instruction in their registered core course (Language Arts, Math, Science, History or Hawaii State History (grades 4 and 7) is provided at each of the Learning Centers. For the off-site portion of the program, each family receives boxes of materials, including a wide array of textbooks, videos, and other hands-on tools and resources. These materials complement the interactive online elements of our program, ensuring that students receive instruction using the best method for each subject.

Extensive School Support During Off-site Learning

Hawaii Technology Academy also provides an extensive support system to both parents and students. Middle school students will work closely with a teacher in core content areas. A responsible adult serves as a "Learning Coach" to the child, helping to facilitate his or her off-site progress and working to modify the pace and schedule as needed. Families should be prepared to spend 3 to 5 hours per off-site day, and a minimum of one day of instruction in registered core courses at the Oahu or Kauai Learning Centers, in order to be successful at Hawaii Technology Academy.

Ongoing training and development for Learning Coaches is provided in person at the Oahu Learning Center, and virtually through the use of Elluminate Live!, an online meeting tool. HTA offers a variety of course-specific training sessions per semester. Families are encouraged to participate in these training sessions to further develop their skills as effective Learning Coaches.

Individualized Learning, Public School Accountability

As a public charter school, Hawaii Technology Academy provides the structure, administrative support, accountability, and state testing required of all Hawaii public schools in addition to providing individualized learning.
