How it Works
Program Overview
Hawaii Technology Academy (HTA) combines the accountability of public schooling with the highest-quality distance-learning curriculum available to provide an innovative, highly effective education for Hawaii students. HTA is a state-approved, public school program. Our curriculum partner, K¹², provides access to both the K¹² Online School (OLS), as well as delivers all the hands-on materials—including beautifully illustrated textbooks and all of the items necessary for science labs—right to your door.
HTA is a model of “blended” instruction—face-to-face instruction within centrally located Oahu and Kauai Learning Centers, combined with learning time spent individually or in small groups away from the centers.
Who is This Intended for?
Hawaii Technology Academy serves students in grades K-12 who reside on the islands of Oahu, Kauai, Maui, Lanai, Molokai, and the Big Island. Students will participate in a regular schedule of core classes and electives at each Learning Center. Some students residing on Maui, Lanai, Molokai, and the Big Island primarily attend HTA as virtual students, having occasional face-to-face or videoconference meetings with their teacher. All students and their parents/other responsible adults will have daily access to their teacher via telephone, the online school, and e-mail.
What about kids with special needs?
Hawaii Technology Academy is dedicated to identifying eligible students who need to receive an appropriate education program consisting of special education and related services which will meet their identified needs.
What are the costs?
Because we are part of the public school system, Hawaii Technology Academy is tuition-free. The entire K¹² curriculum as well as a loaner computer, Internet stipend, and access to a state-certified teacher are provided free of charge.
