Enrollment & Attendance FAQs

Who is eligible to attend Hawaii Technology Academy?

Students who reside on the islands of Oahu, Kauai, Maui, Lanai, Molokai, and the Big Island are eligible to attend HTA in the following grades:

  • Oahu: grades K-12
  • Kauai: grades K-12 (K-5 virtual only; 6-12 Learning Center activities available)
  • Maui: grades K-12 (virtual only)
  • Big Island: grades K-12 (virtual only)

Students residing on Oahu and Kauai will take part in Learning Center activities.

All students who enroll in HTA are public school students, and not homeschool students as defined by law. HTA's hybrid model of education is a model of school choice, and employs a distance learning program with a Learning Center component and interactive online classrooms for all students.

Can I enroll my child in both Hawaii Technology Academy and another school?

No, Hawaii Technology Academy is a full-time public school that doesn't permit dual enrollment.

What does it cost to attend Hawaii Technology Academy?

Since Hawaii Technology Academy is a public charter school, there is no tuition. Hawaii Technology Academy provides a state-certified teacher and all instructional materials for the program. However, students and families will be responsible for providing some consumable materials (such as printer ink and paper) during the at-home instruction portion of the program.

What is the attendance policy?

Hawaii Technology Academy works with families toward a positive attendance record to meet the required number of 180 instructional days. There is also a one-day minimum Learning Center requirement for students from Oahu and Kauai enrolled in HTA. The student's Learning Coach is responsible for logging daily attendance within the Online School (OLS).

Can I take a vacation during the school year?

The school calendar includes school "holidays" or vacation time. Whenever possible, family vacations should align with school vacation days.

Does Hawaii Technology Academy offer full- or half-time kindergarten?

Kindergarten is offered as a full-day program only. Kindergarten students will study Language Arts, Math, and Science, along with an optional elective in either Art or Music.
