Meet Our Administrators
The administrators of Hoosier Academies are committed to ensuring that students receive the finest possible education. From providing expert tools and strategies to using the highest quality teaching materials to offering top parent support, our leadership team does everything possible to provide students with a well-rounded, personalized education. In addition, we are consistently present in our learning centers and classrooms, supporting teaching staff as they work with students. The following are members of the 2010–2011 leadership team:
Lynn Black, Head of Schools
Lynn has spent over 34 years in Indiana public school education. He has served in several urban school districts including Bloomington and Anderson, holding superintendent and director roles in strategy planning, curriculum & development, and school improvement. He earned his bachelor's degree in elementary education from Indiana University at Bloomington, and his master's degree in administration and supervision from Butler University. As a consultant to the Lilly-endowed organization, Community Leaders Allied for Superior Schools, Lynn worked throughout the state in communities interested in school and community reform. In addition, Lynn served six years on the school review board at Ball State University's Office of Charter Schools.
Andrea Goldwater, Operations and Accountability Administrator
In 2002, following eight years spent working in corporate America, Andrea entered the education field. First as a teacher and then as deputy director at Ball State University's Office of Charter Schools, Andrea remains a passionate advocate in the charter school movement in Indiana. She joined Hoosier Academies in June 2008 and fast became a key force in the foundation and organization of the school. Andrea holds a bachelor's degree in English from Purdue University.
Kathy Brown, Marketing and Enrollment
Born and raised on the South Side of Indianapolis, Kathy joined the Hoosier Academies team in 2007. Before transitioning into a career in education, she worked for seven years in the marketing industry at companies ranging from large corporations and mid-sized firms to Indiana small businesses. Kathy has a bachelor's degree in marketing and business management from Indiana University's Kelly School of Business.
Melissa DeWitt, Academic Director
Melissa Dewitt, a native of Muncie, graduated from Cleveland State University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in middle childhood education and dual certifications in mathematics and science education. A teacher in traditional public schools since 2001, Melissa joined Hoosier Academies Muncie as a lead teacher in 2008. She was instrumental in transitioning Indiana Virtual Pilot School in 2009, assisting in development activities at the school. Melissa is currently pursuing her administrator's license at Indiana's Western Governors University.
Robin Wise, Special Education Coordinator
Robin has 12 years of experience in public education and holds both bachelor's and master's degrees from Ball State University. She is currently continuing her education in the Educational Leadership Education Specialist program at Indiana University. In addition to her work at Hoosier Academies, Robin is an ATIA National Conference presenter, University of Phoenix teacher, state-trained mentor teacher, Autism team training participant, and an ICASE member.
Tora Leonard, Indianapolis High School Principal
Tora is originally from Indiana but was raised in Minnesota, where she attended high school and college. She holds a bachelor's degree in English from St. Cloud State University, a master's degree in education from Oakland City University, and a master's in education leadership from University of Indianapolis. Tora joined Hoosier Academies in 2008 as an English teacher in grades 6-11 before accepting her current position as high school academic leader. Prior, Tora taught English and served as the Dean of Discipline at KIPP Indianapolis College Preparatory, taught English at the community college level, and worked for the Marion County Health Department as a family training specialist.
