Indiana Virtual Pilot School

The Indiana Department of Education selected Hoosier Academies to operate a two-year virtual pilot charter school. The Indiana Virtual Pilot School (IVPS) includes funding for up to 220 students, equally distributed across grades 1 through 6 for the 2010-2011 school year.

Hoosier Academies was selected directly by the Department of Education to operate the virtual charter school pilot program pursuant to the authority granted by the Indiana State budget.  Ball State is not the sponsor or authorizer of the pilot program.

Virtual Pilot School Overview

The Indiana Virtual Pilot School (IVPS) is focused on serving students with specific needs, specifically students for whom a virtual charter school is a better alternative than traditional schooling, students with medical disabilities, and/or students with circumstances that prevent them from attending a traditional school. Families will be asked to indicate their reason for selecting the IVPS. At least 75% of students enrolled in the IVPS must have previously been in an Indiana public school during the 2009-2010 school year. Because this is a pilot program, the Indiana Department of Education cannot guarantee funding for the school to continue beyond the 2010-2011 school year.

Information Sessions

Families interested in the Indiana Virtual Pilot School are encouraged to attend an Information Session to better understand the program and to ensure that it is consistent with the family’s beliefs and philosophy concerning education. We offer two types of Information Sessions:
  • In-person Information Sessions are hosted monthly at the Learning Centers. During these sessions, families review the academic model and the K¹² curriculum (including the online systems), and have their questions answered. For a complete schedule, visit our events page.
  • Virtual Information Sessions are available online, at your convenience. You’ll get all the same great information as you would during an in-person session, but you don’t have to leave the comfort of home to attend! For a complete schedule, visit our Virtual Information Sessions page.

Enrollment Overview

Enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year is now open. Enroll now!

Openings for the 2010-2011 academic year are based on the number of 2009-2010 enrolled students returning to Indiana Virtual Pilot School (IVPS) compared to the total capacity of students, which is determined by the Indiana Department of Education.

Currently enrolled students are required to re-register for the 2010-2011 school year in order for their spot to be secured. Currently enrolled students who fail to re-register will not have a guaranteed opening for the 2010-2011 academic year. Currently enrolled families will be contacted with the procedure to re-register.

IVPS will host a six-week open enrollment period beginning March 22, 2010. During the open enrollment period, all families interested in enrolling in IVPS for the 2010-2011 academic year must successfully submit an online application and provide all required documentation. If there are more applicants than spaces available in a given grade level, a lottery will be held for that grade level.

Siblings of enrolled students are given preference; however, sibling applicants are required to abide by the same enrollment procedures as new applicants. All sibling enrollment applicants should successfully submit an online application and provide all required documentation during the six-week open enrollment period. In accordance with Indiana Code 20-24-5-5, sibling applications received after the open enrollment deadline will be added to the end of the sibling waiting list, determined by lottery, in the order they were received.
