Hoosier Academies is a tuition-free, statewide public charter school that uses the K¹² curriculum. Hoosier Academies offers two types of programs: blended learning and virtual.

In the blended learning program, students attend a learning center where they enjoy face-to-face instruction with a state-certified teacher for part of the week, while the remainder of the weekly instruction is facilitated off-site with a Learning Coach. Materials are provided by K¹² and shipped to both the learning centers and to parents' homes, and include textbooks, CDs, and science experiment materials such as bags of rocks and dirt. The learning centers are located in Indianapolis and Muncie.

The virtual program is a fully online program that uses curriculum and services provided by K¹², the national leader in online learning. In a virtual program, learning can happen at home, on the road, or wherever an Internet connection can be found. While attendance, teacher interaction, and daily lessons are conducted online, numerous lessons use physical materials and offline tools.

• Hoosier Academies – Virtual School (Grades K–11)

Licensed Teachers, Superior Teaching Tools

At Hoosier Academies, all students interact with one or more licensed teachers (the amount of time they do depends on grade level) and communicate regularly with their teachers through e-mail, telephone, and online meetings. Hoosier Academies provides each family with the materials necessary to complete schoolwork from home, and these include a wide variety of textbooks, CDs, videos, and hands-on tools and resources. These materials complement the interactive, online elements of our program, ensuring that students receive instruction using the best method for each subject matter. A computer, printer, and if necessary, an Internet stipend is available for families, based on income.

Extensive School Support System

Hoosier Academies provides an extensive support system to both parents and students. In grades K–8, working closely with the teacher, a parent (or other responsible adult) serves as Learning Coach to the child, helping to facilitate his or her progress and working to modify the pace and schedule, as needed. At the high school level the adult is less involved, as students work at more of a collective pace with a class of students in conjunction with the teacher. Each teacher is state-licensed and trained in his or her subject area. In addition, monthly networking opportunities are provided through various events and outings, enabling the entire school community to keep in close contact with one another.

What about Kids with Special Needs?

Hoosier Academies is dedicated to identifying students who may be eligible for special education and/or related services. If a student is identified as in need of special services, the appropriate educational programming will be implemented.
