2011–2012 School Calendar

We are proud to present the school calendar for the 2011–2012 school year. Please note that all Hoosier Academies schools operate using the same school calendar. The calendar was constructed with the following goals in mind:

1. To develop an educational flow for our instruction throughout the school year. Students will be required to attend the traditional 180 days mandated by the state of Indiana, but they will have the opportunity to take advantage of additional instructional days as well.
2. To create opportunities for additional instruction that will improve student achievement. In the calendar, these are referred to as FLEX weeks. FLEX weeks are optional opportunities for families who need additional time for student progress, remediation, and/or enrichment activities.
3. To establish scheduled breaks within the school year prior to the historical breaking points felt by our entire school community. These breaks will be essential to allow our students, teachers and, in our unique setting, the Learning Coaches to re-energize.
4. To offer an opportunity for summer school credit for our high school students and summer enrichment activities for our K to 8 students.

Calendar Recap

• If a student completes their daily work at the Learning Center and at home, their attendance, if perfect, could equal 180 days.
• If a student has perfect attendance and also takes advantage of each FLEX week, their yearly attendance could equal 195 days.
• If a student has perfect attendance, attends each FLEX week, and also summer school*, their yearly attendance could be 200 days. *If summer school is organized as 10 half days.

Other Important Notes

• Over the summer Hoosier Academies will be sending weekly communications to families regarding summer community events.  Then, starting the week of July 4th we will begin sending communications regarding important back to school procedures such as instructions to order uniforms, track request, Parent Orientations details, and information on other Back-To-School activities.
• Parent Orientations will be held the week of July 25, 2011 and the week of August 1, 2011. Several orientations will be schedule with consideration to day of the week and time of day.  All families (both returning and new) will be required to attend a Parent Orientation.
