Letter from Our Director
Dear Parents,
The Florida Virtual Program offers families a web-based distance-learning education option through their resident school district. The curriculum uses the latest technology and traditional teaching materials, and students are provided books, CDs, videos, musical instruments, and much more. Our experienced teachers are dedicated to supporting and guiding you as you work with your children. An innovative Online School (OLS) provides an extensive curriculum and school management tool that includes lesson planning tools, attendance tools, and progress screens.
Parents or other responsible adults can expect to work with students for up to six hours per day to maintain a typical school year's pace for accomplishing lessons associated with assigned grade levels. The curriculum is flexible enough to challenge children according to their mastery of skills. Most students spend about 15 to 25 percent of their day actually online; the rest of their time is spent working offline with workbooks, printed lessons, or other related activities. Students participate in state proficiency testing like all other public school children.
I am very proud of our success in Florida over the past 5 years—the program we ran through FLVA earned a grade of “A” in the 2006-2007, 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 school years, and we and look forward to continuing this tradition of education excellence through the Florida Virtual Program.
I welcome your questions and inquiries. Our administrative office is located in Jacksonville, and you can reach us by phone at 904.721.0035. Please feel free to call or visit.
