Meet the Staff Behind FLVA

FLVA's administrative staff is composed of professionals and specialists dedicated to making a virtual academy a very real learning experience. Here are some of the people who work behind
the scenes to keep FLVA responsive to your needs.

Head of School
Patty Betoni has been a teacher and administrator in public and private schools all over the country, from New Jersey to California, in her 22-year career in education. She was the pioneer lead teacher with the Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School in 2001 before becoming the director of instruction for a private K12 school in Florida. Mrs. Betoni has been involved with training in the areas of curriculum, teacher support, and school start-up with a number of K12 schools.

Director of Assessment and Accountability
Kathy Levine has been with FLVA since October 2003. Before joining the school, she taught grades 2-8 in public schools in Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida. She holds certifications in elementary education and special education, as well as an endorsement in gifted education. Ms. Levine graduated from East Tennessee State University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and has a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of North Florida.

Academic Administrator
Gila Tuchman has been with the Florida Virtual Academy since it opened in 2003. Ms. Tuchman graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in elementary education, and earned a master's degree in early childhood curriculum and instruction from the University of Maryland. She holds a certificate for grades K-6. Ms. Tuchman has taught in both private and public elementary schools, and at the college level. In her four years as a teacher with FLVA, she focused on the upper elementary Language Arts program, with a particular interest in teaching writing.

Operations Manager
