Technical FAQs

Can you guarantee that my information is secure?

Yes, we guarantee that we will not share your information with anyone. See our privacy policy for more details.

Do I have to get an extra phone line? If so, how do I get one?

K¹² works like any other Internet application—you don’t need an extra phone line dedicated to our program. If you are interested in an extra line, you can contact your local phone company to install one for a fee.

What computer equipment is required to use K¹²?

You need either a Windows-based or Apple Macintosh computer with an Internet connection and free software programs that can be downloaded from the Internet.

What plug-ins do I need and where can I get them?

You will need Adobe Acrobat (7 or higher) and Adobe Flash 9.

What browser and versions can I use?

We currently support Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 and 8.0 and Firefox 3.0. For information on how to obtain a browser, visit either the Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox websites.

What modem speed do I need?

You need a 56 kbps modem or better. However, use of a broadband connection instead of dialup is highly recommended.

What computer skills are required?

Some basic skills are required. Use of the computer is an important part of the program, but in the early grades it is mostly the parent (or other responsible adult) who interacts with the computer. The program is user-friendly.
