Individualized Learning
Because our courses are delivered online in a 1:1 model, our courses can accommodate flexible learning styles and schedules. Courses can be taken at home, in a school computer lab, or in a library with computers and internet access .
Teachers are given the tools (such as progress reports and the ability to conduct a high school class meeting online) to support each student.
1:1 in K-8
Our K-8 curriculum allows you to adjust to the pace, schedule, and learning style that works best for your students—which could vary day by day and subject by subject. We've set out very clear lesson objectives for each day, and our assessments are designed to help the teacher and/or learning coach gauge when the student has mastered each objective.
We've also included a variety of activities; the type and amount of activity needed to master each lesson objective will vary by subject and child. Teachers determine if a child can move on, or needs to slow things down and do more to cement a concept or skill.
1:1 in High School
In high school, we offer Math, English, Science, and History courses in multiple versions—Core, Comprehensive, Honors, and, where applicable, Advanced Placement® (AP®)—to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Core courses meet all academic requirements for graduation and college admissions.
- Comprehensive courses are for students with a strong foundational knowledge and aptitude in the subject area being covered.
- Honors and AP courses hold students to a greater degree of accountability for in-depth study of the subject. Enrollment in these courses is based on faculty recommendation and success in prerequisites.
These multiple course levels prevent students from being "locked in" to one level of a particular subject, and flexibly allow for natural progress and growth.
Delivery Model
Our K-8 curriculum supports mastery-based, "go-at-your-own-pace" scheduling. Our high school courses make use of a weekly schedule of activities and assignments. The high school student has the flexibility over several days of deciding what work gets done when, so students who work best on some subjects early in the morning can tackle them then, while students who are night owls can burn the candle to get their work done at the time of day that works best for them.
