Blended Learning Programs
If you’re seeking flexibility, the K¹² curriculum can be used as a part-time solution for off-site students; a computer-lab setting on the school grounds; or a mix of on-site and off-site learning.
When used remotely, K¹²’s online components—such as downloadable printed materials, performance tracking software, and home accounts to enhance family participation—keep teachers connected to students and students connected to the learning process.
On site, the K¹² online school program gives schools an economical way to leverage technological infrastructure to serve all types of learners. It’s also an effective way to deliver differentiated instruction while enhancing students’ familiarity with 21st-century skills.
Blended Learning in the Real World—the Chicago Virtual Charter School
The Chicago Virtual Charter School is a program of the Chicago Public Schools that offers a unique blend of online learning and traditional, brick-and-mortar schooling, using curriculum and services provided by K¹². The online learning portion can happen anytime or anywhere an Internet connection can be found. The brick-and-mortar portion is held once a week.
Certified Teachers, Superior Teaching Tools
At the Chicago Virtual Charter School, all students interact with one or more state-certified teachers (depending on the grade level) and communicate regularly with their teachers through e-mail, telephone, and face-to-face and online meetings. Aside from the onsite portion of the program, attendance, teacher interaction, and daily lessons are all conducted online. Each CVCS family receives a loaner computer and Internet access stipend, as well as boxes of K¹² curriculum materials, including a wide array of textbooks, videos, and other hands-on tools and resources. These materials complement the interactive online elements of our program, ensuring that students receive instruction using the best method for each subject matter.
Here's What CVCS Parents Have to Say
"I have really enjoyed my CVCS experience! I like that we can be flexible with our schedule when need be. The K¹² curriculum is wonderful, especially the fact that there is constant reinforcement of main points throughout each lesson. I can see both of my children growing and actually enjoying learning. Thank you for making this such an excellent option for us!"
— Parent of two children enrolled in CVCS — grades 2 and 3
“My son became frustrated and angry with the school system beginning in first grade. He was bullied by many children and criticized and discouraged from further study by staff. But I feel that we are in the right place now with CVCS. My son’s body language and facial expressions are completely different from those of the past 2 months, and he is more confident, spontaneous, excited, and funny. He gave me the longest hug at bedtime last night and said ‘thank you.’”
