  • 02/28/2012 - 2:00pm - 12/31/2012 - 4:00pm

Increasingly, school districts adopt online learning to meet one need and quickly find new opportunities to expand the initiative to help other students. That’s the changing nature of online learning, exemplified in the experience at Spotsylvania County Public Schools in Virginia. Join us for a case study examining how Spotsylvania began using Aventa Learning by K¹² for credit recovery in an alternative school and soon expanded its use for a variety of purposes in all five of its high schools.

    Topics to be covered include:

    • How teachers can customize online courses for individual students
    • Using online courses in a blended model with classroom teachers
    • How online courses used for credit recovery can reduce the need for summer school
    • Moving online courses beyond credit recovery to help all students take classes that don’t fit in their schedule, or AP courses not offered by the school
  • 03/14/2012 - 2:00pm - 12/31/2012 - 3:00pm

In part two of our four part webinar series,  Danielle Prohaska, Director of Student Services, Office of Teaching and Learning, Mechanicsburg Exempted Village School District, will discuss her “whole school” approach of using A+nyWhere Learning System® by K12 in every classroom at every level to help students achieve maximum results.  Using this online solution, the District is able to use pre-tests and adaptive assessments to quickly identify each student’s strengths and deficiencies, and prescribe appropriate coursework.  After just four years of using A+, Mechanicsburg achieved the Ohio Department of Education’s rating of “Excellent With Distinction,” the state’s highest level. Mrs. Prohaska will discuss how they started, how A+nyWhere Learning System® was implemented in the classroom, how it expanded, and what they’ve learned along the way.

  • 03/20/2012 - 2:00pm - 12/31/2012 - 3:00pm

In this special webinar, brought to you by K12 Inc., Kim McClelland, Assistant Superintendent of Falcon School District 49 in Colorado Springs, will discuss how her district leveraged lessons learned from the implementation of a full-time, online virtual school to address a much broader spectrum of student needs. Opening the district’s Falcon Virtual Academy in 2010 helped tackle the challenges of a crowded district and improve student performance. Based on the success of that experience, McClelland and her team took online learning to the next level. Now, as Innovation Leader for the district’s iConnect Innovation Zone, McClelland and her team have developed nine additional part-time and blended learning schools and programs, meeting more individualized learning needs of more students. Next up for the district is the addition of online credit recovery, RTI interventions, gifted-and-talented enhancement, and foreign-language programs.

    Presenter:

Kim McClelland, assistant superintendent, Falcon School District 49, Colorado Springs, Colo.

  • 04/19/2012 - 2:00pm - 12/31/2012 - 3:00pm

In part three of our four part webinar series, Kim Spencer, Manager of the K12 Homebound Education Program, will discuss the difficulties districts face as they try to address the unique logistical, educational and emotional requirements of these special needs students.  Spencer will outline the obstacles that Homebound Education students face as they strive to stay on course with their school work and, at the same time, focus on recovery and medical treatment.  She will also describe how Florida’s Volusia School District is using a combination of K12 solutions to help their students overcome these obstacles to advance in their studies at a comfortable pace without missing the interaction of a classroom.

  • 05/17/2012 - 2:00pm - 12/31/2012 - 3:00pm

School and district administrators are often faced with the challenge of hiring, developing and retaining strong teachers. Adding online teachers to the mix creates even another layer of complexity. In this webinar, we will explore the differences between online teachers and face-to-face teachers. There is no doubt that great teachers are critical to the success of an online program, but how do you hire for these new positions? And how do you manage online teachers effectively?

Based on our experience of training more than 3,000 teachers in online instruction methods, we’ll discuss the unique role of online teachers.  We’ll present how teachers can effectively use online curriculum, work with students’ families, use systems and tools, and stay current with the latest professional development resources.
