What's Included
The complete K12 solution
As part of the complete K12 solution, you get:
The K12 Online Learning School (OLS)
: This web-based learning management system helps teachers take charge of online lesson content, lesson scheduling, progress reporting, assessments, and communication. With insight into today’s digital student, each lesson is hosted by the OLS. The flexibility of this multimedia instruction introduces limitless possibilities to enhance the learning environment. Today’s digital classrooms are being supported with web-based lessons that display text, images, audio, and animation on interactive whiteboards or personal computers. This strategic use of technology can enhance retention and is sure to motivate students.
The K12 Student Administration Management System (SAMS)
: SAMS is a robust student information system. Integrated with our OLS, this system allows teachers and administrators to maintain students’ cumulative files, and can be used for school reporting, grading, transcripts, class/teacher scheduling, progress evaluations, student enrollment, and course placement.
Total View Schools:
Along with marrying information from SAMS and the OLS into one convenient place for viewing, Total View Schools also serves as a completely secure internal communications network for students, teachers, parents, and staff.
Total View accomplishes this through a self-contained e-mail system that tracks and saves all correspondence as part of the school's permanent record. One of the most important benefits of this is that it allows teachers to interact with students on a one-to-one basis, allowing them to individually offer quality feedback—something both teachers and students love.
The K12 Curriculum
: Our curriculum is the leading distance-learning program for kindergarten through high school, offering over 11,000 content-rich lessons. Assembled by a team of educators, cognitive scientists, mathematicians, geometrists, artists, historians, and more, everything we've developed is based on decades of cognitive science research and trial focusing on how young minds really learn. Courses make intelligent use of technology to increase learning effectiveness.
Printed books and materials are included for each course, bringing the best elements of the classroom into the distance learning environment. We also ship lesson kits, complete with soil, paint, musical instruments, and much more, so kids can get their hands—and minds—engaged in learning.
We believe that because it uses the right cognitive science and the correct mix of tools, our learning program gets kids into learning so that the learning gets into them.
Launch and communications support
As part of the K12 solution, you also get:
The K12 Launch Program
, which helps partners launch smoothly and meet their timeline. K12 uses a combination of onsite and virtual support to provide templates and subject matter expertise. You also get an operating manual, implementation guide templates, and project management support. Our partners get a robust program from day one.
The K12 Student Outreach and Communication Program,
to raise awareness of your program in your community. With this support, districts are able to meet their enrollment target goals of the program, allowing for effective planning and budgeting.
Professional development
We believe in developing materials and tools that turn teachers into subject-matter heroes. K12 offers professional development and training services that help teachers achieve the right knowledge, skills, and unshakable confidence to teach online courses well.
Based on research in effective online teaching and delivery, we apply a five-step iterative process.
We begin by evaluating and performing needs assessments, then design a training program using appropriate methods and media. The training is delivered either face-to-face, virtually, or through blended methods, and evaluate the effectiveness of the training product.
To kick off the training, we invite teachers and administrators to attend an orientation that covers the basics of working in a virtual school using the K12 curriculum. It’s here that they get familiar with the K12 program and our content-rich curriculum; gain an understanding of K12 student profiles in other virtual schools; learn about the K12 platform tools and reports; and discuss enrollment, logistics, and operations.
Finally, we also offer training workshops, web seminars, web-based training, and quick reference tools to meet the needs of our growing schools. These events and items help support system upgrades and give teachers a better understanding of content changes and process improvements.
