Meet Our Administrators

Dr. Craig Butz is Head of School at CVCS. He has worked in online education at the K–12 level for more than ten years. He comes to CVCS from the New York City Department of Education, where he was executive director of the online education initiative, iLearnNYC. Prior, Craig served as executive director of Odyssey Charter School in Las Vegas, one of the first online charter schools in the U.S. Craig began his career in education as a teacher in Los Angeles. He holds a PhD in special education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He also has a master's degree in educational administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Saskatchewan.

Rachel Velazquez is the K–8 Academic Administrator at CVCS. She completed her undergraduate studies at DePaul University and received a master’s degree in education from the University of Phoenix. In the past ten years Rachel has taught a range of grades in Chicago. Now in her fourth year at CVCS, she is looking forward to continuing the success of our school and improving the programs to better suit our students’ needs. Rachel supervises the K–8 teachers, the Academic Support Team (AST), the Response to Intervention program (RTI), and the Advance Learning Program (ALP). She looks forward to the school year and hopes to play a role in making CVCS the best it can be.

Jose Brevil is the High School Academic Administrator at CVCS. He also oversees the Special Education department and ELL program. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and a Master of Education in education leadership from Florida Atlantic University, and is currently a doctoral candidate at Nova Southeastern University. Prior to joining CVCS, Jose was a school administrator and IT director at John Hancock High School. He has taught and worked with students in grades K–12 in Florida and Illinois. He is also on staff at National-Louis University as an adjunct professor in the school of education.

Alissa Solomon is the Operations Manager at Chicago Virtual Charter School. After moving from Denver to Chicago, she joined the CVCS team in December 2009. Alissa graduated from Metropolitan State College of Denver with her bachelor's degree in business management and a minor in Spanish. She worked in many different areas of the school before settling into her current position. Alissa always envisioned that she would end up working in the education field and is truly grateful to be part of such an innovative hybrid school.
