Testing & Assessment FAQs
If there are grades, how will they be determined?
The Chicago Virtual Charter School K-8 program is mastery-based, which means students master concepts and lessons before moving on to the next lesson. Students will be required to submit assignments to their teachers for evaluation and feedback. For the high school program, grading is based on quizzes and assignments, and standard grading criteria are used.
What tests are required as part of the program?
In addition to K¹² lesson, unit, and semester assessments, Chicago Virtual Charter School students will take the following:
- The Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) evaluates students in grades 3-8 in reading and math, and students in grades 4 and 7 in science.
- The Illinois Measure of Annual Growth in English measures the progress of students with limited English proficiency (in grades 3-8) in reading and mathematics.
- DIBELS (grades K-8)
- EXPLORE (grade 8 and high school)
- ACCESS (students screened as needing)
- PLAN (high school)
- Selective enrollment high school test (students in grade 8 who wish to apply)
- Algebra exit exam (students in grade 8 who want to receive high school credit for completing Algebra
