World History
Course Description
Students examine problems in the current world community through knowledge of history, geography, economics, diverse cultures, and political processes. Students learn how contemporary civilizations have been shaped by the past. They explore the influence of physical and cultural geography on history. They examine how significant people, places, ideas, and events affect the development of values, traditions, and institutions. The course begins with prehistory and the Stone Age and continues through ancient civilizations of Asia, the Middle East, Greece, and Rome; the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Protestant Reformation; Spanish explorations of America; the American Revolution; the slave trade; nationalism and imperialism; and the World Wars and the creation of the United Nations.
