American Government and Economics

Course Description

Students acquire an understanding of American government and political behavior essential for active and effective citizenship. They consider choices they must make as producers, consumers, investors, and taxpayers. They investigate interrelationships between American government and the American economic system; documents that shaped political traditions, including the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Federalist Papers; functions of the three branches of government; importance of civic participation; economic reasoning; labor issues; principles of decision making in the marketplace; and personal economic skills.
