High School Art History

Course Description

This course focuses on the art of early civilizations. Students explore the role of the visual arts in the history of humankind and the development of culture from prehistoric times to ancient Egypt and Greece. Topics of study include the elements and principles of art; disciplines, media, and processes; art’s expressive qualities; works of pottery, architecture, and sculpture; and how the qualities of art and its subject matter function together. Students examine viewpoints of historians while expressing their own aesthetic views.
