Wrap Up
Project 1: Create Shapes
Students learn the differences between freehand drawing, technical drawing, and CAD drawing; define drafting and identify the purpose of common drafting tools; and identify common CAD careers. Then they set up a drawing in CadStd and learn to draw lines using absolute and relative coordinates. They create a house using the Rectangle, Line, and Change Entity Tools, plus the Snap To End, Snap Intersection, and Snap To Mid Point commands. They create a face, drawing circles, ellipses, and arcs, and copy, move, mirror, and rotate objects.

Lab 1: Explore CAD
-
Lab 2: Set Up a Drawing
-
Lab 3: Use Coordinates
-
Lab 4: Create a House
-
Lab 5: Create a Face
Project 2: Create Orthographic Drawings
Students learn about orthographic projection and three-view orthographic drawing. They learn about visible and construction lines and layers, and draw a front view. Then they use dimensions and grids to figure out the lengths of lines, and draw a front and top view of a three-view orthographic drawing. They learn about scale and layout; draw a three-view orthographic drawing with hidden lines; learn about symmetry and center lines; and draw a hole using the Circle Tool, hidden lines, and center lines.
-
Lab 1: Explore Orthographic Projections
-
Lab 2: Draw a Front View
-
Lab 3: Draw Two Views
-
Lab 4: Draw a Three-View Orthographic Drawing
-
Lab 5: Draw a Hole
Project 3: Draw Sectional Views
Students learn about sectional views, planes, cutting planes, and cutting plane lines. They draw a sectional view and add center and section lines to holes. They draw cutting plane lines on orthographic views. They learn about full sections, half sections, and offset sections.

Lab 1: Explore Sectional Views
-
Lab 2: Draw a Sectional View
-
Lab 3: Place Cutting Planes
Project 4: Create an Isometric Drawing
Students learn about pictorial drawing and depth, isometric drawing, and distance and angle measurements. Then they draw an isometric drawing and arrange three views and an isometric drawing on a page.
-
Lab 1: Explore Pictorial Drawings
-
Lab 2: Draw with Angles
Project 5: Create an Oblique Drawing
Students learn about oblique drawing and foreshortening, calculate the real depth of a foreshortened object in an oblique drawing, and draw foreshortened lines of depth. Then they draw an oblique drawing and arrange three views and an oblique drawing on a page.
-
Lab 1: Explore Oblique Drawings
-
Lab 2: Draw with Oblique Angles
Project 6: Create a Perspective Drawing
Students learn about vanishing points; horizon lines; and one-point, two-point, and three-point perspective. They use vanishing points and construction lines to draw a cube in two-point perspective. Then they change a cube into a different 3-D object, still in two-point perspective.
-
Lab 1: Explore Perspective Drawings
-
Lab 2: Draw in Two-Point Perspective
Project 7: Draw an Auxiliary View
Students learn about auxiliary view and visualize auxiliary views of 3-D objects. They learn to understand reference planes and reference plane lines. Then they use a reference plane and construction lines to draw an auxiliary view.
-
Lab 1: Explore Auxiliary Views
-
Lab 2: Draw with a Reference Plane
Project 8: Dimension Drawings
Students learn about dimensioning, dimension lines, and extension lines. Then they set dimension settings; learn about relative and baseline dimensioning; and apply guidelines for good dimensioning to dimension an object. They use a leader line and the Text Tool to dimension a circle; identify ways that CAD standards apply to dimensioning; define dimensioning styles; and learn to interpret drawings with advanced features, such as center line dimensioning, dual dimensioning, tolerance, and theoretical points of intersection.
-
Lab 1: Dimension a Block
-
Lab 2: Use Baseline Dimensioning
-
Lab 3: Dimension a Circle
-
Lab 4: Explore Complex Dimensioning
Project 9: Create Working Drawings
Students learn about the contents of working drawings as detail drawings, assembly drawings, and a bill of materials; then draw and add attributes to a title block. Then they draw a detail drawing, set dimension settings, and dimension an orthographic view to a center line. They draw a bill of materials, use balloons to label parts of an assembly drawing, and add information about the parts to the bill of materials. They learn about ways to work well with clients, and how to export .cad files to .dxf files in proper order for a set of working drawings.

-
Lab 4: Create a Bill of Materials
-
Lab 5: Export Working Drawings
Project 10: Create a 3-D Design
Students learn to use various tools to navigate a 3-D CAD environment. They create a SketchUp project, using the Line Tool, point inferences, and dots to draw edges. Then they create a house, moving and rotating 3-D objects, and applying patterns and color. They learn to create objects of specific size, carve objects, and create 3-D objects by moving a shape along a path. Finally, they view a design in various 2-D orthographic views and walkthroughs.
