Intermediate 1 Music
Course Overview
Intermediate 1 Music is intended for students of third-grade age or older who have completed K12 Beginning 1 and 2 Music or Introduction to Music. Through traditional folk songs and games, students learn to read and write a variety of musical patterns. They learn to play simple melodies and rhythms on the recorder. They become more familiar with the orchestra, especially the woodwind and brass families,
and learn about the lives and works of Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. Students will:
- Learn to play the recorder
- Sing along with folk songs
- Practice moving to music
- Listen actively to different kinds of music
- Read and write music
- Learn to recognize melody in four and five note patterns
- Identify rhythms in music using sixteenths, dotted half notes, and whole notes
- Recognize AB and ABA form
- Become familiar with string and percussion instruments of the orchestra
- Become familiar with brass and woodwind instruments
- Learn about the lives and music of classical composers
