AZVA's staff is committed to ensuring the finest education possible for your children. From providing expert tools and strategies to teaching materials and parent support, our staff is dedicated to making sure that you have what you need to deliver a well-rounded, enriching education to your children. Here are some of the people who maintain AZVA's high standards of education.
Title 1 Coordinator
Nichole McCauley has been with AZVA since late March 2005. Her classroom experience includes teaching kindergarten, first, fifth, and sixth grades. She is a 2000 graduate of Eastern Washington University with a major in elementary mathematics, and earned a Special Education endorsement. She has taught children in a public school district and with a charter school and is excited to be teaching in a virtual environment. Nichole is currently working on her master's degree in curriculum and instruction at the University of Phoenix. She is an Arizona Highly Qualified Teacher, certified in regular education K-8 and special education K-12.
Response to Intervention Coordinator
Hope Terhaar has been with AZVA since September 2006. She has nine years of experience in education. After graduating from Ottawa University with a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education she continued her education and received her MA in elementary education from Northern Arizona University. Hope is now working toward another MA in educational intervention at Ottawa University with a long-term goal of becoming a K-8 school administrator. During her career, Hope taught second and sixth grades, and she also worked for the Arizona Department of Education in the Character Education Department. She is excited about working with AZVA students and teachers.
Compliance Coordinator
Sharon Slater, middle school lead teacher, joined AZVA in December 2004. She earned a post-baccalaureate teaching certificate from Ottawa University and is certified in K-8. She has seven years of experience as a public school teacher for the Kyrene and Chandler districts, and a Phoenix area charter school. Sharon has taught kindergarten through high school, including long-term substitute positions in special education. Before becoming an educator, she earned a BS in accounting from Arizona State University and worked as a corporate controller.
Enrollment and Retention Specialist
Nikki Hofmann is in her third year with AZVA. She received her bachelor's degree in elementary education with an endorsement in middle school education from the University of Northern Iowa, a well-known teacher-training university. After graduating at the top of her class, Nikki moved to Phoenix in 2002. She loves working at AZVA and is dedicated to serving families.
