What grades are available at K¹² at the Y i-Learn Centers?

With the exception of a few locations, each i-Learn Center offers opportunities for grades 4–12.

K¹² High at the Mesa Y is a complete high school program offering direct instruction and individual tutoring services on-site. Students also receive remediation and support from their online teachers. One-on-one guidance counseling and group counseling activities focus on increasing self-esteem, boosting confidence, and career exploration.

Maryvale Las Artes Center offers a complete middle school program (6–8) with direct onsite instruction in Mathematics and Language Arts. Classrooms have low teacher-to-student ratios, ensuring quality instruction so that students are able to maximize their learning potential.

Who is eligible to enroll in the K¹² at the Y i-Learn program?

Any Arizona student interested in enrolling and willing to make a commitment to participate in blended learning opportunities at a learning center is eligible.

How do students participate in the program?

Students interested in participating in K¹² at the Y i-Learn Center programs, including K¹² High at the Mesa Y and Maryvale Las Artes Center, will have the opportunity to sign up during the enrollment process. Is space limited at each K¹² at the Y i-Learn Center?

Each K¹² at the Y i-Learn Center has unique availability during morning and afternoon sessions. Specific information regarding these sessions will be available during the enrollment process.

How long are the sessions at the K¹² at the Y i-Learn Centers?

In most cases sessions are available during morning and afternoon windows, lasting four hours each. At K¹² High at the Mesa Y, sessions last five hours each, and at the Maryvale Las Artes Center sessions last two hours each. How many sessions can a student attend each day?

Students may participate in one session per day for a total of 20 hours per school week At K¹² High at the Mesa Y, it is recommended that students attend full time, five days a week. At the Maryvale Las Artes Center students attend one two-hour session of direct instruction per day. Special arrangements may be made with the site director if a student would like to stay for more than two hours.

How many days a week can students attend K¹² at the Yi-Learn Centers?

Student may attend anywhere from one to five days per week. However, students will need to determine their schedule as soon as possible in order to allow for maximum participation from every student. At K¹² High at the Mesa Y, students are encouraged to attend five days per week. At the Maryvale Las Artes Center students are required to attend 4 times a week for face-to-face instruction.

Will transportation be provided or coordinated for students?

Transportation is currently the responsibility of each student and family for their scheduled K¹² at the Y i-Learn Center sessions. We provide public transportation options for students in selected areas.

Will students be issued a K¹² computer for home use?

Qualifying students may be issued a computer to assist with the completion of online work. This determination will be made during the enrollment process. All K¹² at the Y i-Learn Centers are all equipped with desktop computers for participating students.

What materials are students expected to bring for K¹² at the Y i-Learn Center sessions?

As part of enrollment in Arizona Virtual Academy and participation in K¹² at the Y i-Learn Center sessions, all books, materials, and course supplies are provided. However, students are expected to bring their books with them each day as necessary for the planned coursework.

How many K¹² at the Y i-Learn Center sessions do students have to attend per week in order to receive a complimentary YMCA membership?

Student must attend a minimum of three sessions per week in order to maintain their complimentary Y membership. The Maryvale Las Artes Center requires 4 days as week, and K¹² High at the Mesa Y requires 5 days a week to maintain their complimentary membership.

Who is responsible for monitoring and supporting students?

Each K¹² at the Y i-Learn Center site will be staffed by a paraprofessional who is employed by Arizona Virtual Academy and trained in student management, school policies, and procedures. In addition, students will work with an Arizona-certified teacher in subject-specific areas during the school year. At K¹² High at the Mesa Y, Arizona-certified teachers, special education counselors, and counseling services are on site full time. At the Maryvale Las Artes Center, Arizona-certified teachers deliver instruction in math and language arts.

Will teachers be in contact with site coordinators to discuss student progress and achievements?

Procedures will be established to monitor individual student progress and achievement, and will be determined on an as-needed basis by each center. At K¹² High at the Mesa Y, opportunities for real-time instruction and direct feedback are part of the benefits of the program, since the teachers, services, and staff are full time, on site, and certified. Maryvale Las Artes Center offers real time instruction and direct feedback as part of the benefits of the program, with Arizona-certified teachers on site for Language Arts and Mathematics.

If a student withdraws from AZVA and the K¹² at the Y i-Learn program, what happens to the complimentary Y membership?

Unfortunately, if a student withdraws from the program, his or her complimentary membership at the Y will be forfeited.

Will family members have access to other YMCA facilities, such as daycare for younger siblings?

Parents of enrolled students will be eligible for a discounted family membership at the Y. A facility may only be used if a membership is purchased.
