FAQs- Testing & Assessment

If there are grades, how will they be determined?
The Arizona Virtual Academy is a mastery-based program, which means students master concepts and lessons before moving on to the next lesson. Students will be required to submit assignments to their teachers for evaluation and feedback. Teachers will assess mastery and provide quantitative feedback in the secondary grades. Quantitative grading begins at seventh grade.

What tests are required as part of the program?
For the 2008-2009 school year, in addition to K12 lesson, unit, and semester assessments, AZVA students in grades 3-8 will take the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS). Students in second and ninth grades will take the TerraNova test. Students in grades 10-12 will take the high school AIMS test.

Do I have to participate in state testing?
All students are required to participate in state testing, and are subject to withdrawal if they do not participate.
