Testing & Assessment FAQs

What tests are required as part of the program?
For the 2008-2009 school year, in addition to K¹² lesson, unit, and semester assessments, ARVA students in grades 3 through 8 will take the Arkansas Benchmark Exam. Students in kindergarten through eighth grades will take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS). These tests are a required part of participation in ARVA.

How is student progress assessed?
The Arkansas Virtual Academy is a mastery-based program, which means K-8 students master concepts before moving on to the next lesson. Following NCLB and state guidelines, students are expected to make at least a year’s growth in a year’s time. Teachers will assess mastery and provide feedback to students and families.
