Who can enroll in ARVA?

According to Arkansas regulations, students must reside in Arkansas and meet the age requirements in order to be eligible to enroll in ARVA. Admission to ARVA is based on completion and submission of all enrollment forms and materials within state guidelines.

During open enrollment, a lottery will be used to place students within the school if there are more applicants than open slots. Students will be placed on a wait list based on lottery selection. After open enrollment, if there are available slots, students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Should the need for a wait list emerge, a wait-list application will be date-stamped when all paperwork and placement test results have been received.

What if my child is placed on the waiting list?

ARVA will contact families on the wait list as additional slots become available. ARVA will continue to enroll new families until the school enrollment cap of 500 students is met.

I would like to enroll my child in ARVA and another public school. Does the ARVA program allow for this kind of dual enrollment?

The ARVA program is a full-time, comprehensive academic program and, thus, does not lend itself to dual enrollment.

How do I enroll my student?

Complete the ARVA Enrollment Application for the 2011-2012. If your student is selected during the lottery process, you as parents must attend a face-to-face parent training session. You will need to provide copies of the following documents with your student's enrollment:

• Birth certificate
• Proof of residence (e.g., utility bill)
• Prior year school report card or standardized test scores
• Immunization record

How will I know when my student's enrollment has been approved?

ARVA administration will contact each family either by phone, e-mail, or regular mail to inform parents about the results of the lottery. Parents will register for a required face-to-face parent training session. At the parent training, information will be provided regarding the additional steps and information needed to process the enrollment, place students in the curriculum, and approve enrollment.

Does ARVA offer full- or half-time kindergarten?

ARVA offers only full-time kindergarten.

Are there any attendance requirements?

According to state law, ARVA is required to offer 178 days of instruction per school year. Additionally, statute requires a minimum of 1078 instruction hours per grade level, which averages to 30 hours per week and six hours per day.

ARVA students may log instructional time anytime during the day and on any day of the week.
