School Policies

Commitment to Serve Students

Agora is committed to the full implementation of NCLB and IDEA 2004. We believe special education students can achieve at the same high standards as are required for all students enrolled in our schools when given the supports necessary for success as outlined by their IEP. Therefore, we will ensure that our enrolled special education students will have full access to those curricular offerings that are aligned to Pennsylvania state academic achievement standards for their age appropriate grade level. If you suspect your child is experiencing an area(s) of weakness cognitively, socially/emotionally or physically, talk to your teacher or an Agora Administrator. We can discuss screening methods as a Response to Intervention or conduct a Child Study Team Meeting.

Chapter 15 / 504 Service Plan

Under Section 504 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and under the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act, some school age children with disabilities who do not meet the eligibility criteria may nevertheless be eligible for special protections and for adaptations and accommodations in instruction, facilities and activities. Children are entitled to such protections, adaptations and accommodations if they have a documented mental or physical disability that substantially limits or prohibits participation in or access to an aspect of the school program. Any child enrolled in Agora that you suspect has a disability should be referred to the child’s teacher, Principal or Director of Special Education.

Discrimination Policy

It is the policy of the Agora Cyber Charter School that no person be denied admission to the school or be denied participation in, be denied benefits of, or be discriminated against in any curricular, extracurricular, student services, recreational or other program or activities, shall not be abridged or impaired because of the person’s sex, race, religion, national origin, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital or parental status, sexual orientation or physical, mental, emotional or learning disability as required by state and federal statutes. This policy also prohibits discrimination as defined by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (sex), Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (race and national origin) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (handicap).
